Power of Poetry Workshop©
The Power of Poetry Workshop is designed for children aged between 11-18, and is delivered in universal and specialist settings. The workshop is available to students of all abilities, and incorporates a range of learning styles so that individual needs can be met. Students begin to acquire a poetic vocabulary through a series of learning activities that include class discussion, critical writing assignments, and personal reflection. The Power of Poetry Workshop employs inter-connectivity to create links between the poems used and their own experiences. The workshop enables students to foster a richer understanding of poetry as social commentary and personal expression.
Spoken word uses the combined approaches of psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics, and benefits social, personal, emotional and educational development. Spoken word performances are an excellent way of bringing students poetry to life, to encourage positive participation, and to help students develop confidence in themselves as well as their work.

Spoken word is a form of poetry that is specifically written to be performed. Spoken word, performance poetry often serves as a universal, socially-charged voice. This self-empowering form of expression can heighten students’ interest in poetry and enhance their own powers of self-expression. It empowers children who may not be used to being heard to have a voice, and express their thoughts, feelings and desires in a positive and creative way. The Power of Poetry Workshop enables students to explore poetry as a medium of written and spoken expression.
This is a one-and-a-half-hour introductory workshop. Alternatively, a more in-depth approach to learning about spoken word poetry and performance, can be delivered over four one-hour workshops. The cohort of four workshops features key poetry techniques and enables students to develop their poems into spoken word performances.
The Power of Poetry Workshops are also available for adults and younger children. Please contact for further information.
